As everyone arrived they all sat and started talking waiting for him to arrive of course he was the last one to come but that wasnt his fault because in my family they feel if you on time you late. The doorbell started ringing and before I could answer it my brother was at the door. I could see it all over my brother face when he opened the door it would be a problem because he didnt even say hello or nothing he just stood there and looked at my new boyfriend that was black. In my family they feel to have a friend that is black is ok. To have a boyfriend that is black is just not understood. I tried to explain to them that the color of skin should not matter. All that should matter is that Im happy! Well all I heard from everyone one of their mouths was that this world is still shallow and judgmental and if I was to date him all I was doing was setting myself up for failure. Their favorite line

This essay is one of several essays that focus on the issues regarding our justice system, and if it works. What Jennifer has to say about justice and its effects on the criminals' lives is one of the most honest and truthful things I have ever read in an essay. Some of them are not yet fully aware of their crimes and have yet to find out what actually happened that led to their sentencing. It makes sense that most of them need some form of assistance, especially in learning how to manage their lives after their imprisonment .My understanding of this essay is that Jennifer, who once was incarcerated herself, chose to write it from her family members' perspective. She explains how each of her three brothers are currently in prison. I believe she is writing her own story, which she believes will offer insights about justice and incarceration, and how it can affect her own life.Start writing. Write about your family, and write about your understanding of justice. Start learning, and understand that everyone deserves to be treated equally, regardless of the crimes they committed.Just because someone has been a jail inmate before, does not mean they will always be a repeat offender. Start paying attention, and learn, about other people's experiences with incarceration. You may be surprised.Begin speaking up. How to Make Ice Spikes in Your Freezer
How to Make Ice Spikes in Your Freezer Ice spikes are tubes or spikes of ice that shoot up or off at an angle from a container of frozen water, such as a bird bath or bucket in the winter. The spikes resemble an inverted icicle. Ice spikes form rarely in nature, but you can make them in your own freezer quite simply and reliably. Heres what you do. Ice Spike Materials distilled waterice cube trayfrost-free freezer (ordinary home freezer) Its important to use distilled or reverse osmosis purified water. Ordinary tap water or mineral water contain dissolved substances that may prevent the water from forming spikes or reduce the number of spikes that are formed. You can substitute a bowl or cup for the ice cube tray. Plastic ice cube trays are nice because they contain several small compartments, meaning you have a quick freeze time and several chances for spikes. Make Ice Spikes Its easy! Simply pour the distilled water into the ice cube tray, set the tray in your freezer, and wait. You can expect about half of the ice cubes to contain ice spikes. An ordinary ice cube tray freezes in about 1-1/2 to 2 hours. The spikes degrade and soften over time since most home freezers are frost-free and will blow warmer air over the spikes. How It Works Pure water supercools, which means it remains liquid past the ordinary freezing point. When it starts to freeze at this lower temperature, it solidifies very rapidly. The freezing process starts at the edges of the container because the nicks, scratches, and imperfections allow for nucleation of the ice crystals. Freezing continues until there is only a hole near the middle of the container, which contains liquid water. Ice is less dense than liquid water, so some of the crystals float to the top and are pushed out, forming a spike. The spike grows until the water is frozen. There are two reasons why ordinary tap water or mineral water are less likely to form ice spikes. The first reason is that this water tends to freeze at its regular freezing point. This is a much slower process than freezing from the supercooled state, so solidification is more likely to be homogeneous or occur throughout the ice cube all at once. If there isnt a hole in the ice, the ice spike cant grow. The other reason is that contaminants or impurities in the water become concentrated in the liquid as the water freezes. Researchers believe solids become concentrated at the growing tip of an ice spike and inhibit further growth. Learn More How To Supercool WaterMake Hot Ice or Supercooled Sodium AcetateWhy Ice Floats

The Right and Wrong of Writing
The Right and Wrong of Writing The Right and Wrong of Writing The Right and Wrong of Writing By Mark Nichol Who or what determines what is correct form in writing, and what is incorrect? Many nations have an official body that regulates the national language to protect it from extinction or at least from degradation. (Franceââ¬â¢s Academie Francaise, in particular, seems to exist primarily to prevent pollution of the French language by importation of English words let me know how that works out, mes amis). This paternal protection, however, does not extend to grammar and punctuation and the like. The United States is not among those countries with prose police, but our library and bookstore shelves groan with dictionaries and grammar, usage, and style manuals as well as handbooks that guide us in our use of punctuation and the Internet abounds with more of the same. These resources are not necessarily engrossing reading (unless youââ¬â¢re a word nerd), but they are exemplary models in practicing what they preach, and they are likely to be much more reader-friendly than the dread-inducing language arts textbooks of our schooldays. Why, then, has the quality of writing declined so dramatically that we might benefit from an English Academy one devoted not to language purity (which words we use, and which ones we donââ¬â¢t) but to monitoring the written form of that language? The democratization of publishing is primarily responsible, I think. Because, thanks to the dramatic increase in options for businesses and organizations to disseminate information by way of text online and in print, and because of the ease of self-publishing the same media affords anyone with access to them, more and more people who donââ¬â¢t pay attention to such details are writing and being read, which of course exposes so many more people to the errors. Thus, erroneous usage not just in hyphenation, punctuation, spelling, and other mechanical mistakes but also in infelicities of grammar, syntax, usage, and other more substantial elements of writing is multiplied virally because of the shift in the signal-to-noise ration: Fewer people are reading rigorously written and edited prose, and more people are reading writing crafted with less care. This, I believe, is the culprit in the decline of quality in published writing Iââ¬â¢ve observed over the years both as an editor and as someone who takes a busmanââ¬â¢s holiday every time I read for information or pleasure. The reason for the decrease in consumption of meticulously produced content is twofold. Fewer people actively seek good writing. But equally culpable are the publishing industries, the erstwhile guardians of good writing, which compromise the quality of periodicals and other publications because they discourage labor-intensive practices necessary for producing high-quality writing, practices inimical to lean-business strategies that result in high profits. This issue brings up a question Iââ¬â¢m surprised people donââ¬â¢t ask more often: In the realm of writing, if so many people do something seen as wrong or nonstandard, doesnââ¬â¢t that make it right? After all, thatââ¬â¢s how new laws are written and how societal mores changes. And thatââ¬â¢s how language changes. So, if the majority of writers write, ââ¬Å"You and meâ⬠at the head of a sentence instead of ââ¬Å"you and Iâ⬠(or reverse their preferences when the phrase is the object of a sentence), why is the former usage considered incorrect and the latter one deemed the acceptable way? The majority seems to beg to differ. Because language doesnââ¬â¢t turn on a dime. For sanity to prevail, there must be a period of time between shifts in rules of usage and punctuation and other elements of writing in which we respond to ââ¬Å"Everybody else does itâ⬠the way a parent would react to that type of justification uttered by a willful teenager: ââ¬Å"Well, if everybody else went and jumped off a cliff, would you?â⬠By the same token, we need to scold writers by saying, ââ¬Å"Well, if everybody uses comma splices, does that mean you should, too?â⬠At the risk of seeming like a strict parent, thatââ¬â¢s why Iââ¬â¢m going to defend my rigor by saying that popular usage is not a standard. It is not a guidebook. And I will follow my own counsel: I will adhere to the rules (unless I have an indefensible reason to break one now and then), and I will exhort others to do the same.
